In the alternative Scientology magazine The Compleat Aberree (sic!)

Over the Editor's Shoulder (a column for reader's letters):

"We've had fun with your news letter and found the detailed write-up on the church useful in giving people the data on that move. So far we feel not at all religious -- or at least no more religious than scientific or philosophical, so we are as before..... Don't know whether we'll subscribe to your sheet or not -- I won't! Already I could have written another book in the time it takes me to throw away the sucker list ads and papers I don't want to read...." -- Martha Courtis, Ann Arbor, Mich."

The Compleat Aberree - Volume 5, Issue 6, page 8:

"... Martha Courtis (whose On Auditing won her the deserving award of a Fellowship). Richard deMille (who not only wrote the textbooks of 1951-52. but also An Introduction to Scientology, thus constructing the near perfect bridge between Dianetics and what we now know as Scientology), and ..."

The Compleat Aberree - Plowing Up the Field:

"Martha Courtis reports they so enjoyed their Florida vacation that they're making arrangements to move down there in a year or so. Ann Arbor, Mich., won't be quite the same without the Courtises ... "

What an Auditor Should Know by L. Ron Hubbard. Originally from Journal Scientology issue 22-G (1953, circa mid-December)

... In a recent book On Auditing by Martha Courtis, the gradient scale of Dianetics and Scientology is made extremely apparent, and it is shown there quite expertly how each advance only extended knowledge already held, and the inevitable consequence of Standard Operating Procedure in Scientology. ..."

A lecture by LRH:
LABELS: BEINGNESS AND JUSTICE (CONTINUED)
A lecture given on
14 January 1954

"... Areas where food is short replace eating with hunger. For one “goofy” on the subject of sex, have him find places where he can’t survive, because the decision he can’t survive is concurrent with his decision he can’t create. One who has decided he can’t survive usually goes into the hectic application of sex.
"(Add to the “applause scale” in Martha Courtis’s book: Eating and Sex)
"Actually, ridicule, betrayal, etc. are all attention. The most awful thing you can do to anybody is to ignore them."

[Note: Ron refers to the book On Auditing here and suggests to add the items "Eating and Sex" to the applause scale (see as well illustration on p49 of her book)]
