notes[edit | edit source]

"Peggy was a South African entertainer who became an auditor in the early 1950s and was a long-time friend of L. Ron Hubbard. She died in 1957. Hubbard talked about her in the tape "Individuation". He also wrote a poem, "Eulogy for a Friend", which has been published in the Ron the Poet/Lyricist mag." Mark Plummer
"Just a small correction. Peggy was not a South African entertainer. She was American, a friend of LRH and was sent by LRH to South Africa to check out the scene here regarding "establishing SCN in this country" but returned and told him the country was not stable politically, so he postponed the visit. My mother Rhona Smit, (who worked and lived with LRH) tried to get this piece of false data corrected by writing to all and sundry responsible for the error (which is in the biography series), to no avail."
"Also, a little known fact is that Peggy either loaned or bequeathed LRH some of the money which enabled him to buy Saint Hill (in addition to him selling off some of his own personal yacht and other mest).. My mom found Saint Hill, showed LRH the brochure and he said "buy it" so she did. Circa 2010 or so she (Rhona Smit) was finally validated and knighted at Saint Hill in a ceremony in her honour as having bought Saint Hill." Shelley Ashurst

Antony Phillips In December 1956 I was on a special week long "Dummy auditing" course at HASI London (newly moved to 37 Fitzroy Street). There were six or eight on the course, run by Rosina Mann and it was the first trial run of communication course Trs. Present on the course were Peggy Conway and Mary Sue Hubbard, who I was led to understand were very close friends.
